Coffee Filter Leaf Garland Craft (Kid-Friendly)

This coffee filter tie dye leaf garland craft is fun for kids and honestly so soothing and nostalgic for adults as well. It’s cute to hang around the windows or anywhere in your house for a splash of fall.

Supplies:

  • Coffee Filters

  • Washable Markers

  • Cup of Water

  • Straw

  • Brown Pipe Cleaners

  • Yarn / Twine

  • Scissors

  • Pencil/Pen

  • Newspaper or Cardboard (somewhere to let them dry)

INSTRUCTIONS:

  1. Draw with washable marker on your coffee filter with fall colors. I found that the best ones had some brown in the mix for contrast.

  2. Drip small drops of water throughout the coffee filter until the marker bleeds and blends. I found the easiest way was to use a straw to suction the water out of a cup and drip it that way. Be careful not to overly-soak your filter, or the color will completely wash out.

  3. Let the filter dry. It should take no more than 20 minutes.

  4. Draw a leaf shape on the filter and cut around it. A variety of shapes is fun! You can fit one or two on each coffee filter.

  5. Poke a brown pipe cleaner through your leave about 3/4 of the way to the top of the leaf. Pull the pipe cleaner through half way. Then fold each side of the pipe cleaner down, and twist the two ends together, securing the “stem” of the leaf.

  6. Cut a long string out of yarn or garland. Attach each leaf by the end of the pipe cleaner for your final coffee filter leaf garland!
