DAD SHOES | 2021 Trends

In the fashion world, 2020 shall forever be known as the year that made sweats acceptable for events of all kinds. Even the first lady and second lady both wore yoga pants and casual tops in their first posts online after being elected. This past year, I think we just were unwilling to put up with any other discomfort beyond the stress of current events, not to mention we literally saw no one for a very long time, and cozy clothes became our grown up security blankets.

I too, hopped on the how-did-i-ever-wear-jeans-before-this train and along with sweats came the question of which shoes I could wear with them if I ever did want to look socially acceptable for my mid-week Trader Joes runs. Before this year, I owned one pair of sneakers. They were blush pink Nikes that I wore originally mostly just for exercise but was starting to wear any time I left the house. None of my sandals felt right with sweats and plus, maybe if I wore my sneakers I might actually work out that day. My work-out shoes have served me well this year and I will love them forever, but as we emerge into more public appearances, actual human interaction, and dare I say, jeans(!), I thought it might be nice to continue the comfort of sneakers I found this year with a pair that feels slightly more “i-tried-today.”

Enter: Bright White Gen Z Dad Shoes (or are they Grandma shoes?)

I’ve heard dad shoes are already on their way out, but I’m finally catching up and found this FILA pair on Amazon for a nice $35. They literally came with a warning that, though they are slip resistant, they are not slip-proof and I should “always exercise caution on slick or wet surfaces.” I am either very trendy or ready to retire to a nursing home… I’m not sure which.

What do you think of this sneaker trend? Yea or nay?
